New Greek food truck brings a taste of the boroughs to Massapequa

A new food truck has rolled into Massapequa, bringing authentic New York City-style Greek street food to Long Island — without the Manhattan (or Astoria) prices.

Golden Greek Street Food officially opened its take-out window today, Friday, in the parking lot of Sunrise Smoke Shop, in front of the old Sunrise Mall.

“I work in the city and I love to eat authentic Greek food. I just could never find anywhere around here that makes it like that,” co-owner Anthony Pavlicko told Greater Long Island. “So my partner and I wanted to bring that city feel here to the Island, at affordable prices.”

Pavlicko and his partner Vlaysios Kartalis first came up with the idea about six years ago, but the timing was never right, until now.

Kartalis previously ran the food trucks for King Souvlaki in Astoria, Forest Hills and Bayside.

The new food truck features menu items that Pavlicko says help separate it from other Greek spots on Long Island.

“We are different because we have things on our menu you can’t find many other places, like Greek sausage,” Pavlicko said. “And nobody else makes lamb and chicken gyros like Vlaysios. They are the best around.”

The menu also features four types of Souvlaki, Greek Salads with or without meat, and homemade rice pudding and Baklava for dessert.

In addition to authenticity, affordability was also a major focus for the new business, which is why they decided to be mobile instead of a storefront.

“We aren’t trying to make people go bankrupt to enjoy a good, authentic meal,” he said. “We can keep the prices lower with the food truck instead of a restaurant.”
