A documentary-style feature chronicling the return of ice scooters to Bellport Bay after nearly a decade without meaningful ice conditions has earned Greater Long Island its first Gold Telly Award.
“Return of the Ice Scooter” received Gold in the Online — Outdoor & Adventure category during the 47th Annual Telly Awards, which drew more than 13,000 entries this year recognizing excellence in video and television content across all screens.
The feature explored the history of the South Bay Scooter Club and Long Island’s unique ice boating culture, capturing longtime riders returning to the frozen bay during a rare stretch of favorable winter weather earlier this year.
“It was an honor to tell the club’s story and Long Island’s rich ice boating history,” said Nicholas Esposito of GLI, the project’s executive producer. “After nearly a decade without meaningful ice time, seeing these longtime boaters back on the bay was incredibly special.
“We’re grateful to our crew for their hard work and to our subjects for trusting us with their story.”
The Telly Awards, founded in 1979, recognize excellence in video and television across digital, broadcast and streaming platforms. Previous winners have included national media organizations, production companies and independent creators from around the world.
Greater Long Island previously earned Silver and Bronze Telly Awards for past video features, though this marks the publication’s first Gold honor.
