Adventureland’s newest ride is bringing a new kind of spin to Farmingdale.
The longtime Long Island amusement park has launched the Wave Twister, a custom-built thrill ride in its Legacy Corner that park officials say is the first of its kind in the world.
“It’s the first of its kind in the world to our knowledge,” said Jeanine Gentile, Adventureland manager.
A press release from RES Rides, the ride’s manufacturer, also confirmed it as the world’s first opening of the new thrill ride.
The Wave Twister features two 10-passenger gondolas that spin as they move along a nearly 280-foot track, climbing more than 50 feet in the air. The combination of height, movement and rotation is meant to mimic the feeling of riding ocean waves.
“I’ve gotten on it a few times,” Gentile said. “I feel like each time, I have a different sense of thrill. No two rides, in my opinion, have been the same.”
While the ride’s height may look intimidating for younger guests, Gentile said the experience quickly turns into “smiles all around.”
The Wave Twister is also designed to be family-friendly. Riders as small as 36 inches can ride with an adult, while those 48 inches and taller can ride alone.
“We’ve seen kids from 4 years old to grandma and grandpa riding,” Gentile said. “It’s really cool to be able to see all generations getting on there and enjoying it.”
Coming soon
Adventureland is currently open on weekends and has been drawing crowds since its March 20 opening day. The park is also preparing to reopen two longtime staples: its pirate ship, named Pirat, the German spelling of pirate, and a new carousel later this spring.
“Those have been staples in our park, so we’re excited for them to reopen,” Gentile said.
Adventureland is also expanding its discounted Sunset Savings program this summer.
Beginning June 29 and running through mid-August, guests can visit Mondays through Thursdays from 5 p.m. until the park closes at 10 p.m. for $32.50. The price applies to all guests, regardless of age.
Currently, guests can visit during the final two hours before closing for $29.50.
The park is also offering season passes for frequent visitors. Passes for guests ages 25 and older are $120 online, while passes for ages 2 to 24 are $185 online. That means the passes pay for themselves in about three visits for adults and four visits for kids.
