Suffolk Police made 15 arrests and impounded seven cars early Saturday after a street takeover shut down a Medford intersection, capping an overnight pursuit that stretched across three towns.
Police said the county’s Street Takeover Task Force learned through social media monitoring Friday night that a takeover was being planned somewhere in Suffolk County. Officers tracked the group from location to location, breaking up attempted takeovers at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip and at Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue.
The task force ultimately caught up to the group at Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford abound 12:50 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, drivers in the street takeover group had already shut down Sawgrass Drive, spinning donuts and burnouts and performing stunts in the roadway, police said.
