Slurp Ramen will be getting some key improvements now that its owners were just surprised with $1,000 from the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.
Each year, the chamber recognizes a local business for its “Small Business Improvement Award,” which is given out through a selective application process.
To win, the business must be operating at least one year and have less than 50 employees, all while being a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
“The award couldn’t [be applied toward] daily operations,” said Slurp’s co-owner Francesca Nakagawa, “It had to be to fix something or better equipement.”
And that is precisely what Slurp is going to do with the funds.
According to Nakagawa, the ramen eatery will be using the money to add signs to the exterior of the building, as well as improve its bathroom.
“We’d like to thank everyone in the chamber for helping us out,” said Nakagawa. “We want to make Port Jeff pretty.”
Slurp Ramen found out about the award at Tuesday night’s Chamber of Commerce meeting at Barito.
Also at the meeting, a new board of directors were sworn in for 2018 (list below).
