Islip Animal Shelter continues to process adoptions amid COVID-19

The Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center is still accepting pet adoptions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the facility is closed to the public via New York’s shutdown, the shelter is accepting applications online. The animals needing new homes can be found on Facebook, Petfinder.com and Adopt-A-Pet.com.

All meet-and-greets take place outside of the adoption center with one family being serviced at a time.

The shelter has facilitated 18 dogs and two cat adoption this way since March 30.

“It’s a positive sign to see the Islip community has continued to open their hearts and homes to provide loving families for our pets during these trying times,” said Martin Bellew, Islip’s Department of Environmental Control commissioner. “For many, there’s never been a better time to bond with a new family friend. It’s a ray of hope and a testament to the kindheartedness of our neighbors,” he said.
