Mr. D’s Ultimate Fitness will be moving soon from the Briarcliffe building to the former West Lake Catering Hall in Patchogue.
And a big upgrade is planned as well.
“After owning the gym for four years we are always looking for ways to improve,” said Mr. D’s owner, Dennis Forman. “We spent over a million dollars in renovations and new equipment over that time.”
The “new” Mr. D’s will be more of a health and wellness center, he said.

The location at 322 West Main Street will add another 4,000 square feet of space over Mr. D’s current spot. Forman says he will use space to add new amenities for gym members without raising membership prices.
Some of the additions include new cardio machines and free weights, hot yoga, an agility room, physical therapy, nutritionists, and a juice bar.
The gym is relocating to help make way for Blue Point Brewing Co., which is planning to move its brewery from River Avenue to the Braircliffe building.
Work on the brewery is expected to start this year, according to Blue Point’s application with the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency.
Briarcliffe will be “teaching out” its current students as the year progresses.
Forman said the brewery move provided the perfect opportunity for Mr. D’s to expand.
At 26,000 square feet, there will be space in the new gym to offer separate areas for more serious weight trainers (read: grunters), and also spots for more casual workouts.
Forman, who owns Mr. D’s with his two sons, Garrett and Gavin, said he wants to continue to invest in the gym because he believes it’s a sanctuary for the local community.
“It’s not a gym here, it’s a family,” said Forman. “Everybody at this gym says it’s their home.”
He’s looking to open in the new space by Memorial Day weekend.
