Despite the COVID-19 shutdowns, here are 10 new restaurants that opened in the Greater Long Island coverage areas this year. Tap the number boxes below each post to view them all.

BUTERA’S, BAY SHORE

Already a well-known name in Italian food across Long Island for decades, Butera’s opened on the corner of Third Avenue, just north of East Main Street, in September.

Although initially scheduled to open in early spring, co-owner Martin Butera told us the pandemic put things on hold.

Butera and his team completely gutted the space and turned it into an open and modern Italian spot, with a floor plan ideal for social distancing.

There’s a large outdoor dining space too. “I love the space,” he said. “It’s a current design and we’re getting a lot of positive feedback.”
