10, 9 … Suffolk’s South Shore is now less than nine days away from getting its first Shake Shack.
The new location at The Shops at SunVet in Holbrook — already nicknamed the “SunVet Shack” — opens at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, and will operate daily from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The full menu will be available from day one, including the ShackBurger, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes, along with limited-time offerings throughout the year.
Early birds will be rewarded: the first wave of guests through the door can expect to receive custom Shake Shack tote bags, the company said Tuesday while announcing the store’s opening day.
SunVet Shack’s opening also carries a charitable component. The company said it will donate $1 for every sandwich sold at the Holbrook location on April 15 to Serve All NY, a nonprofit that supports children and families by providing food, clothing and everyday essentials.
The Holbrook outpost marks Suffolk County’s fourth Shake Shack overall. The chain’s other Suffolk locations are in Lake Grove, Melville and Selden. Each north or mid-island, leaving the South Shore without one until now.
The new Shack rises inside one of Long Island’s most closely watched retail comeback stories. The Shops at SunVet is the open-air reinvention of the old SunVet Mall.
The once-bustling enclosed shopping center off Sunrise Highway enjoyed a decades long run before spending its final years waving bye-bye to such big brand tenants as Toys “R” Us, Pathmark and Blockbuster.
A joint venture between Blumenfeld Development Group and Regency Centers has now transformed the roughly 168,000-square-foot site into the shopping destination it is today, with Starbucks, Nordstrom Rack, Sephora, Whole Foods Market and Wonder already open in the shopping center.
Shake Shack traces its roots to a single hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park in 2001, which grew into a permanent kiosk by 2004 and has since expanded into an international fast-casual brand known for its angus beef burgers, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes.
