Babylon chamber to stream a Rockin’ New Year’s Eve show from Argyle Theatre

|

2020 is finally coming to an end.

But the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce is pulling all the stops to wrap up this difficult year on a high note.

The chamber is collaborating with Argyle Theater and several local talents for a New Year’s Eve celebration show to ring in 2021.

Kelly Peckholdt, the chamber’s president, said the showcase will be Babylon’s version of a live “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” complete with featured musical guests, comedians, interviews with village officials, and more surprises.

The show is free to the public. All anyone has to do is visit the chamber’s Facebook page to view the live stream. The show will run for about 90 minutes. The exact kickoff time is still to be determined, but the organizers are looking to start around 10:30 p.m. Check Facebook for updates.

The live stream can also be viewed on the Chamber’s website

The event’s brainchild — the local entertainer who goes by Roman — will be emceeing the event alongside Brandon Levone.

The talent lineup includes Krisi Ardito, DJ Ello, Don’t Believe In Ghosts, The Zigons, Nick Tangorra, Labelle, John aka Fudge the Comedian, and Roman.

This is not Roman’s first time organizing a major event for the village — over the summer, the Babylon native emceed the downtown’s first-ever pride parade.

Peckholdt said Roman approached her with the idea and has been instrumental in putting this event together.

He describes the event as a fun way for the community to safely ring in the new year together from home.

“The town needed an uplifting moment,” he told GreaterBabylon. “To share this special holiday with one another through virtual, we wanted to give a show of entertainment that the people of Babylon felt connected to.”

Reflecting on this year and the importance of this event, Peckholdt said the chamber has learned to adapt and get creative, especially with community-oriented virtual events.

It’s been a year of completely reimagining the chamber’s regular lineup of events, she said.

“This was something that was so unique and fun,” she said of New Year’s. “In a regular year it could be a hard time for some people, so it’s really nice that we could bring some holiday spirit to people and hope for the new year.”

Roman said the event shows the village moving forward by doing something never done on the island before.

“This town is not one to sleep on,” they said. “We are full of energy, have a dynamic variety of people, and the show we have created showcases that. The real star of this New Year’s Eve is Babylon.”
