The smell of popcorn and hot chocolate filled the air as guests waited in line for the 31st annual Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Spooky Walk last weekend.
The event featured music, food, beer and, of course, the 45-minute Spooky Walk, which was put together by volunteers and benefits Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, a camp for children with special needs.
“The asylum definitely scared me,” said Maya Rickman. “I was also scared when a bunny jumped at me.” Rickman is part of the Youth Directions and Alternatives agency, which was holding their annual field trip to the Spooky Walk.
Some volunteers design their own exhibits for the Spooky Walk.
“We went from little kids running around scaring people to now our own exhibits, concessions and more,” said Bobby Frey, a volunteer and a nephew of Marielle Weiss, Spooky Walk’s creator. “This camp, it’s a hidden gem and it creates such an impact on the community.”
Frey used to be a groundskeeper at the camp and lived on the grounds. Frey recently held his wedding at the camp because of the sentimental value it held for him and his family.
The Spooky Walk will be open Oct. 25 and 25 from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $20.
