A sophisticated burglary allegedly carried out while a North Valley Stream homeowner was away on vacation left nearly $1 million in cash and jewelry missing — and Nassau County police say three Suffolk County men are responsible.
According to Nassau County detectives, the break-in happened at a home on Wyngate Drive East after the 42-year-old homeowner left for a family vacation on April 10.
Police said the homeowner became suspicious two days later after noticing the home’s surveillance cameras were not functioning properly and asked a relative to check on the property.
When the family member arrived, authorities said they found the side entrance door forced open and the door frame ripped off. Detectives also alleged the home’s surveillance cameras had been repositioned and covered with tape, while the residence’s internet wiring had been cut.
Investigators said they recovered a signal jammer believed to have been used to interfere with the home’s security systems.
Inside the residence, police said they found a bedroom closet ransacked and damage to the area where a safe had been bolted to the floor.
According to detectives, the stolen safe contained approximately $460,000 in cash and about $500,000 worth of jewelry.
Police alleged the suspects used tactics resembling a professional heist, including disabling security systems, cutting internet lines and using a signal jammer before forcing their way into the home.
