Center Moriches VFW plans scaled-down Memorial Day ceremony

|

The VFW Post 414 in Center Moriches will lead a scaled-down version of the community’s annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning.

“It will be a lot smaller than we normally do because of the virus and all, but it’s something we must do,” said post commander Bob Galbraith, a Vietnam Memorial veteran.

The ceremony will start around 9 a.m. at the post, located at 437 Main St., with some members from the group and family, and possibly others from the Center Moriches Fire Department and Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches

After a brief ceremony that will include a wreath-laying and the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” a vehicle procession will go down Main Street to Mount Pleasant Cemetery, where there will be another wreath-laying and the playing of “Taps.”

“We’re trying to keep it brief but meaningful,” Galbraith said. “We’re going to be there to honor our brothers who gave their all.”
