Cohen Children’s Medical Center has been named the top children’s hospital in New York and tied for fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region in the 2025-26 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

The hospital, part of the Northwell Health network, is the largest provider of pediatric services in New York and the state’s largest Level 1 pediatric trauma center.

In the U.S. News study released on Tuesday, the hospital earned national recognition in 10 pediatric subspecialties:

  • Neonatology – 18th
  • Pediatric urology – 18th
  • Pediatric nephrology – 20th

  • Pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery – 23rd

Cohen Children’s also achieved the highest state rankings in pediatric nephrology, pulmonology and urology. All other specialties placed in the top five in New York.

“Achieving this No. 1 ranking for Cohen Children’s Medical Center is a testament to the groundbreaking work and tireless dedication of every single member of our extraordinary team,” said John D’Angelo, recently appointed as president and CEO of Northwell Health.

Hospital leaders said the ranking reflects clinical excellence and a focus on patient and family experience.

“Our commitment has always been to foster a truly comforting and healing environment where advanced medicine meets unwavering compassion,” said Carolyn Quinn, president of Cohen Children’s and senior vice president of pediatric services at Northwell.

The U.S. News rankings, now in their 19th year, are based on clinical data from 118 children’s hospitals and surveys of thousands of pediatric specialists. Hospitals receiving a “Best” designation excel in clinical outcomes, adherence to best practices, and hospital resources dedicated to patient care.

Annemarie Stroustrup, chair and senior vice president of Northwell’s pediatric service line, said the ranking motivates staff to continue innovating in pediatric care.

“It inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of pediatric medicine, ensuring that every child in our care benefits from the innovative treatments and compassionate attention they deserve,” she said.

Jose Prince, senior vice president of children’s surgery and pediatric surgeon-in-chief, said the recognition also reflects the hospital’s surgical expertise.

“It validates the countless hours our surgeons, anesthesiologists and operating room staff dedicate to performing groundbreaking procedures,” Prince said, “ensuring every child receives the most advanced and precise care available in a truly comforting environment.”
