Cops: NJ duo posed as FBI, tried scamming LI woman out of $125K in gold

|

Two men from New Jersey are facing charges after police say they tried to scam an 80-year-old Massapequa woman out of more than $100,000 — and investigators believe there may be other victims.

Here’s how it went down.

According to police, one of the suspects posed as an FBI agent and told the woman she’d be charged with federal crimes unless she handed over $125,000 worth of gold.

But when the woman went to purchase the gold, detectives were alerted to a possible scam.

That’s when, police say, 23-year-old Jay Radadiya showed up to her home on Wednesday — only to find officers waiting for him. He allegedly tried to run but was caught and arrested.

Police say the second suspect, 22-year-old Fenil Bambharoliya, was waiting in a car nearby. He was arrested shortly after.

Both men have been charged with attempted grand larceny. Detectives are now asking anyone who thinks they may have been targeted in a similar scam to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
