Delta has just announced it’s about to be the first U.S. airline to offer direct flights to Catania, Sicily.
The flights start next month out of JFK International Airport.
“Delta is opening this long-unserved market, providing travelers unparalleled access to Sicily’s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes,” Delta representatives said in a statement. “Whether savoring a cappuccino in a Sicilian piazza or exploring the stunning vistas of Mount Etna, Catania promises an unforgettable experience.
Wait, there’s more
Delta, based in Atlanta, Ga., has big plans for the summer of 2025, touting “a record trans-Atlantic expansion in Italy and beyond.”
The airline just announced its largest-ever such summer schedule, with new routes not only to Catania, Sicily, but Naples, Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Dublin, Brussels and other destinations from airports as far west as Detroit and Minneapolis-Saint Paul.
The airline even released this nifty map:

“With over 700 weekly flights to 33 European destinations and beyond, we’re expanding access to key cities like Barcelona and Dublin with new routes, while introducing our first-ever nonstop service to Catania, Sicily,” said Joe Esposito of Delta. “We’ve also recently opened a stunning Delta One Lounge at JFK, with more to come at LAX, BOS, and SEA. Alongside the rollout of free international Wi-Fi and increased premium seating across our fleet, we’re ensuring our customers enjoy the best in connectivity and comfort from the moment they arrive at the airport to when they touch down.”
