Drew Patrick Spa ditches coffee shop; opens men’s department in Bay Shore

|

During its first nine years in Bay Shore, Drew Patrick Spa offered coffee, barista drinks and bakery items.

But those days are over.

The coffeeshop has been removed in favor of a men’s department.

The shift also marks the first time Drew Patrick is offering an array of men’s items in the 10,000-square-foot spa, retail shop and fitness facility at 128 West Main Street.

“Men’s fashions is a growing market, all across the board,” said Drew Patricks’ retail manager, Monique Stelfox.

She said the new department is for men and young men, and includes lines that fit the characteristics of the Bay Shore and larger South Shore areas, such as Fish Hippie, Harding-Lane and Superdry.

“Things that people aren’t going to find at Macy’s or the mall,” Stelfox said.

Drew Patrick’s president, Drew Patrick Allt, said the little corner coffeehouse facing Main Street, located in the same building, was first run by a tenant. The tenant left soon after opening, but the Drew Patrick team decided to keep the shop going.

“It was coffee, soups and baked goods, and we loved it,” said Allt. “But it wasn’t our core business.”

Plus, the downtown finally got its dedicated coffeeshop in Bay Shore Bean, as well as Cyrus: Chai & Coffee Company near the Bay Shore LIRR station.

Drew Patrick’s retail shop had always offered women’s fashion items, home decor and hostess gifts. But they began testing out small men’s gift items — mostly around the holidays. They sold well.

“It was really popular,” said Allt.

The actual men’s department opened quietly in September.

“Before that, we just weren’t sure there was a market to allow all this space for it.” Stelfox said.
