The North Carolina-based Duck Donuts has brought its warm, made-to-order donut magic to Old Country Road in Planview.
And the store is giving away a whole lot of free treats to celebrate its opening.
“We are thrilled to be expanding our locally owned business by opening our third location in Plainview,” said franchise owner Omar Athar. “We cannot wait to serve the Plainview community smiles and warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts.”
The grand opening party happens Saturday, May 17, starting at 8 a.m., and the first and 100th guests in line will score a dozen free donuts every month for a year.
Not early enough to be first? The next 50 guests will still walk away with a free dozen to use on a future visit.
Just for showing up, every guest that day will get a free cinnamon sugar donut.
How it happened
Athar and his wife, Sana Rafique, already own two popular Duck Donuts shops on Long Island, in Garden City Park and East Meadow. The two grew up in the Garden City Park area and lived in Nassau County for over 20 years.
Now they’re looking to build a little donut empire, one sprinkle at a time.
The decision to open in Plainview was all about continuing to serve local families in a fun, delicious way — with a side of giving back, reads a press announcement. The store’s opening will also mark the launch of its Quack Gives Back campaign, with proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro and Western New York.
If you go

The new shop at 1032C Old Country Rd in Plainview is decked out in Duck Donuts’ signature beachy theme — think light, bright and family friendly.
It features a viewing area where kids and adults can watch their donuts being made as well.
For the initiated, Duck Donuts is a made-to-order donut shop. Like a Chipotle or Five Guys, there’s an assembly line ordering system where you’ll choose from dozens of coatings, toppings and drizzles to build your own custom combo. Go classic with chocolate icing and rainbow sprinkles or get wild with maple bacon, lemon drizzle or Oreo crumble.
Beyond donuts, the shop serves up coffee, espresso drinks, donut breakfast sandwiches, sundaes, milkshakes and frozen beverages.
There’s also indoor seating for when you want to take a moment to soak in the donut-scented air.
Elsewhere on Long Island, there are also Duck Donuts locations in Selden and Hauppauge, run by different owners.
