ALAN JOHNSON
Johnson said he makes art out of “stuff I find in my travels.”
“I’m the ultimate recycler,” he said. “I’ll take stuff that’s just garbage to other people, and I’ll make a sculpture out of it.”
He picks up much of what he uses along the beaches. His “Bonzai II” sculpture is made from bay sponges and “Clamber” is made of clamshells, among other things.
“The clams, I actually caught and ate,” he said.
And all his works, even the sculptures made from clay, are abstract.
“Just a little,” he joked. “There’s no puppy dogs or flowers here.”
