A group of William Floyd High School teachers created a fun public service announcement video urging students and others to practice social distancing while also staying active.
In the video, which has gotten more than 4,000 views on YouTube as of April 4, shows, in order, physical education teacher Mike LaCarrubba, science teacher Mike Kellerman, English teacher Mike Devenney, English teacher Paul Helbig and science Chris Ribaudo playing various sports or activities on their own and “passing” a ball. Each pass cuts to the next person in a different situation.
“I know you’re doing the right thing by staying inside, but it’s still important to get outside and staying active,” LaCarrubba said, before passing a soccer ball to Kellerman on a bike, who throws a football to Devenney, who is playing street hockey in and passes to Helbig in goal. Helbig throws a softball to Ribaudo, who eventually kicks a soccer ball back to LaCarrubba.
LaCarrubba said he made the video “to make our students smile and to let them know we are thinking of them.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo even chimed in with a word of support on the district’s Facebook page.
“Thank you William Floyd teachers for helping to encourage social distancing. It saves lives.”
