Retired New York Mets great Darryl Strawberry is recovering tonight in a Missouri hospital from a heart attack he suffered on the eve of his 62nd birthday, according to posts he has made on social media.
“Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life this evening from a heart attack,” Strawberry, a member of the Mets’ Hall of Fame, posted on Instagram and Facebook. “I am so happy and honored to report that all is well.”
In the post that went up just before midnight in New York, the ex-Met and Yankee is smiling and dressed in a hospital gown while seated up in a hospital bed, apparently at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis. His wife Tracy is by his side, as well as another unidentified woman.
“Glad you’re okay old man. Love you. 🙏🏾💜” commented Strawberry’s relieved daughter Diamond.
Darryl Strawberry praised the physicians and other medical staff involved in his treatment.
“So thankful for the medical team and staff at St. Joseph Hospital West … for responding so quickly and bringing me through a stent-procedure that has brought my heart to total restoration!!!” he posted. “Your prayers are so absolutely appreciated as I continue to recover, in Jesus Name!”
Strawberry is scheduled to have his No. 18 retired by the Mets this season, during a pre-game ceremony on June 1. The team will do the same for Strawberry’s longtime pal Doc Gooden’s No. 16 during an April 14 ceremony.
Strawberry’s former teammate and current Mets bench coach commented on Strawberry’s Instagram post, “Stay strong my friend, God has more for you 👏.”
The retired slugger received a wave of well wishes in the comments section of his social media posts tonight, including Strawberry’s Facebook friend John Taormina of Medford, who wished him a “Quick Recovery 
.”
Strawberry hit 335 home runs and tallied 1,000 RBIs during his 17-year MLB career. He played eight seasons with the Mets and five seasons with the Yankees.
