Game On adds sprawling retro store next to its Riverhead arcade

|

Retro gaming fans have a new destination in Riverhead.

Game On Retro World has officially opened at Tanger Outlets, expanding local entrepreneur Tristan Whitworth’s growing lineup of nostalgia-driven entertainment businesses with an 8,000-square-foot store packed with vintage video games, movies, collectibles and pop culture memorabilia.

Located at 200 Tanger Mall Drive, Suite 410, the new shop sits alongside Whitworth’s popular Game On Retro Arcade, creating what he hopes will become a one-stop destination for fans of classic gaming and ’80s and ’90s nostalgia.

The grand opening follows a soft opening earlier this week.

“This new store is absolutely massive,” Whitworth said in a social media post announcing the opening.

The shop features a curated collection of DVDs and VHS tapes displayed in a classic video rental store-style layout, along with vintage video games, comic books, vinyl records, action figures, Pokémon cards, toys and other collectibles.

Whitworth first opened Game On Video Games in Miller Place in 2015 before expanding to Smithtown and Riverhead. He said the new concept brings together everything he loves about retro entertainment under one roof.

“An 8,000-square-foot space full of not just video games, but everything retro,” he wrote before opening. “As if our 100-plus free-play arcade wasn’t enough of a reason to visit Tanger, wait till you see this store.”

The Riverhead expansion is part of Whitworth’s broader vision of creating affordable entertainment destinations on Long Island. In addition to the new retail store and arcade, he recently announced plans to transform the former Coram Movieland theater into a retro-inspired movie theater, along with another arcade and game store next door.

“My goal here is to bring back entertainment on Long Island that’s meaningful and families can afford,” Whitworth wrote.

Game On Retro World is open at 200 Tanger Mall Drive, Suite 410, in Riverhead, next door to Game On Retro Arcade, which offers unlimited play for $15 per day.
