This weekend marks the official kickoff of Christmastime in Patchogue Village.

Not only is the village’s Main Street already trimmed, but boat owners across the South Shore, from Bellport to Lindenhurst, have been busy decorating vessels large and small for Patchogue’s annual Christmas Holiday Boat Parade on Patchogue River.

This year’s theme is Disney. The parade pushes off at 6 p.m. Sunday.

“Depending on the weather, we have as many as 5,000 people along the river,” said Michael Bruemmer, the owner of Off Key Tikki and the chair of the Patchogue Riverfront Committee, which organizes the annual event.

“We don’t just get people at the big viewing points, like the Davis Park and Watch Hill ferry terminal,” he added. “It’s the restaurants. All the marinas are doing flash party popups. Now even the condo units are doing the same.

“It’s like a wet, three-quarter-mile block party.”

Light-lovers will have a chance to get a sneak of some of the decorated boats at a preview party Saturday starting at 5 p.m. and running until 8 p.m., during which time Blue Point Brewing Co. will be helping to host a holiday craft beer festival at Off Key Tikki.

There, Blue Point will be pouring some exotic craft brews from its Blue Point boat.

The Southern rock band Stage Coach will playing on the beach until 11 p.m. on Saturday.

“People will get the chance to be up close and personal with the boats that will be at the parade on Sunday,” Bruemmer said. “They can chat with the boat owners and talk about the work they did, and how they approached their interpretation of the Disney theme.”
