Great Weekends: Fall fest, Ghostbusters and (free!) pumpkin picking

|

Just when you thought greaterpatchogue.com’s October calendar couldn’t get any better, the biggest and best Patchogue Fall FestivalĀ is about to kick offĀ a non-stop Halloween-themedĀ Saturday and SundayĀ across the coverage area.

This year’s fall festival will be taking over East and West Main Street through a combination of two forces: the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce and the New Village at Patchogue.

The streets close at noon for the festival with a kids (and pets) costume parade startingĀ at 2 p.m.

The festivalĀ also features pumpkin decorating and a chili and chowder contest, through which participants hop from restaurant to restaurant to sample and cast their votes for their favorite concoctions.

All the while, vendors will also be lining Main Street and within the New Village complex, at the Village Green, where Ghostbusters will be airing outdoors at around twilight.

Then on Sunday in Bellport, the big-hearted People Making a Difference group is hosting a noon to 4 p.m. free pumpkin-picking and face-painting day at Robert Rowley Park, where in August the group gave away free school supplies to local children.

The first-ever pumpkin picking event was helped along by a generous donation from the new owners of nearby Miracle Plaza.

Other Sunday, Oct. 18, events include a world-renowned mummy expert appearing on stage at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, and a 7 p.m.Ā Exploring the Spirituality of The Beatles White Album, which is attracting top musical performers to The Congregational Church of Patchogue.
