Cops say an 18-year-old and his two 17-year-old pals jumped a 73-year-old man in a Bolla Market parking lot
A 73-year-old Hauppauge man collecting bottles for recycling was beaten by three teenagers in a supermarket parking lot Tuesday, then the same group tried to rob a 67-year-old e-scooter less than an hour later, Suffolk County police said.
Keeghan Lynch, 18, and two 17-year-old boys approached the victim in the parking lot of Bolla Market at 504 Route 111 in Hauppauge abound 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. The teens hit the man with a bottle, then punched and kicked him before driving off in a white Chevrolet Trailblazer, police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Roughly an hour later, the same Trailblazer pulled up outside 18 Lisa Court in Shirley, where one of the 17-year-olds demanded a 67-year-old man hand over the e-scooter he was riding, police said. The man refused, fled and called 911.
Fourth Squad detectives identified the teen and arrested him. He’s charged with third-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault (intent to cause physical injury with weapon/instrument) and second-degree assault (injure victim 65 or older – defendant at least 10 years younger). He was arraigned in the youth part of Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.
Lynch was arrested at his Remsenburg home Thursday night and charged with second-degree assault (intent to cause physical injury with weapon/instrument) and second-degree assault (injure victim 65 or older – defendant at least 10 years younger). He pleaded not guilty on Friday in Suffolk First District Court.
The second 17-year-old involved in the Hauppauge assault has been identified but remains at large, police said.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information, or any additional victims, is asked to contact the Fourth Squad at 631.854.8552, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1.800.220.TIPS.
