Opening up his own gallery has been a long-held dream of Islip High School graduate Evan Conway.
And after 12 years in photography, that dream has turned into a reality with the opening of Right Coast Gallery in downtown Bay Shore.
“This place was perfect for exactly what I wanted to do,” said Conway, 28.
The former yoga studio space at 6 Fourth Avenue, just south of Tullulah’s, is filled with over two dozen of Conway’s photos.
Conway spent several years working in the corporate world before shifting his focus toward his life’s passion.
“I felt like I didn’t have control of my own stuff,” the Islip resident explained, “I mean [with] shooting commercial stuff, but my real passion is for fine art and waves.”
Today, the walls of Right Coast Gallery are used to display an array of oceanic shots from California to the Caribbean, and of course, his hometown beaches of Long Island.
“I really like just shooting waves,” said Conway, who has a bachelor’s of fine arts degree.
His photographs come in all shapes, sizes, materials, and prices. “I wanted options for everyone,” said Conway.
Aside from capturing scenic photos, Conway also does the majority of own printing in-house. He says he can make portraits that could fill up an entire wall.

Right Coast Gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m. For the holiday season, Conway has expanded his hours and is open Monday and Tuesday.
