Islip Town residents stood in solidarity to support the victims of the tragic shooting in Pittsburgh this past Saturday.
On Tuesday night, there was a vigil held at the Brightwaters canal that drew hundreds of people.
During the vigil, clergy from several faiths, along with elected officials, emphasized unity and love during trying time.
“We must not let anti-Antisemitism push us into silence,” said Rabbi Shimon Stillerman, of the Chabad of Islip. “The call to action was to be proud Jews, especially after seeing the support of the wider community.”
To remember the 11 who were murdered in the hate crime, people filled a box with handwritten notes of condolences and resolutions to do a good deed.
“Where 11 candles were extinguished, we must respond by adding 100 lights of good deeds,” said Stillerman.
