After more than two weeks of cleanup, repairs and around-the-clock work following an electrical fire, Jordan Lobster Farms in Island Park will reopen Wednesday, just in time for the Fourth of July weekend.
The fire broke out in a back office shortly before 7 p.m. on June 13, forcing the family-owned business to temporarily close.
Now in its 51st year, Jordan Lobster Farms has become a summertime staple on Long Island’s South Shore. The waterfront destination features a seafood market, clam bar, indoor restaurant and backyard bar.
“What can you do? Accidents happen,” owner Steve Jordan told Greater Long Island.

Jordan said the timing of the closure made the setback especially difficult.
“We had bad weather on Mother’s Day and Memorial Day and then were closed because of the fire on Father’s Day,” he said. “Three of the biggest days of the year. We have such a short seasonal window. But we will be OK.”
Determined to reopen as quickly as possible, Jordan said family members, employees and contractors worked around the clock to get the business ready to welcome customers again.
“I’m so tired, I can’t even walk,” Jordan said with a laugh. “We worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to make sure we could reopen as soon as possible.”

Despite the challenges, Jordan said the outpouring of support from the community helped carry the business through the closure.
“The community has been unbelievable,” he said. “From everyone calling, to asking if they could help out in any way. The police and fire department were great. I just want to say thank you to every single person.”
The business echoed that gratitude in an Instagram post announcing the reopening.
“The fire tested us in ways we never imagined, but it also reminded us how fortunate we are to be part of such an amazing community,” the post read.
Jordan Lobster Farms’ seafood market will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the dining room at 11:30 a.m.
