Marshall Warren’s hometown run with the New York Islanders is continuing.
The Islanders announced Friday that they have signed the Laurel Hollow native to a one-year, two-way contract, keeping the 25-year-old defenseman in the organization after a season that included his NHL debut, his first game at UBS Arena and a strong year with Bridgeport.
Warren appeared in eight games with the Islanders last season, recording three assists. He also posted 32 points — six goals and 26 assists — in 56 games with the Bridgeport Islanders, leading all Bridgeport defensemen in points and ranking second on the team in assists.
For Warren, the new deal extends a Long Island hockey story that became one of the feel-good moments of the Islanders’ season.
The former Boston College captain and University of Michigan alternate captain made his NHL debut last season and later suited up for his first Islanders home game at UBS Arena, where about 30 family members and friends were in the crowd for a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.
“When you’re a kid, you dream about that,” Warren said after that game. “For me, that was awesome — and we got the win too, so that made it even better.”
Warren has now played 111 career AHL games with the Islanders organization, totaling 49 points with 10 goals and 39 assists.
Before turning pro, Warren played one season at Michigan, recording 18 points in 41 games while serving as an alternate captain. He previously spent four seasons at Boston College, where he captained the Eagles as a senior and totaled 57 points in 130 career games.
Warren was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft but never signed with the team. He later joined the Islanders organization after finishing his college career.
Now, after getting his first taste of NHL hockey with the team he grew up rooting for, Warren will get another chance to push for more time in blue and orange.
“You work hard for those moments,” Warren said last season. “Getting a home game is super special.”
