A Freeport man claimed a $1 million prize on New York Lottery’s Magic 8 Ball scratch-off game, lottery officials said today.
Walter Jewels received a single, lump sum payment totaling $445,356, after required taxes. The Freeport High School alumnus bought his winning ticket at Curiosity Cards & Gifts, located at 193 Atlantic Ave. in Freeport.
Jewels is the first Long Islander to claim a $1 million scratch-off prize since January 23, when Deer Park’s Tarig Osman claimed the top prize in the Millionaire Maker scratch-off game.
Earlier this month, two Long Island companies and a woman from Bay Shore claimed three separate Powerball second prizes of $1 million or more.
One top prize remains on the Magic 8 Ball ticket. Players can check the status of any New York Lottery scratch-off game at nylottery.ny.gov.
