Massapequa High School’s athletic program finished among the best in New York and the nation after a 2025-26 school year that included multiple county, Long Island and state championships.
The Massapequa Chiefs were the top-ranked Class AAA athletic program in New York and the state’s No. 1 boys sports program, according to the New York State Sports Writers Association’s 2026 Kerr Cup All-Sport Championship. Massapequa finished second overall in the state, behind Rye High School.
The program also finished second among all New York schools in the MaxPreps Cup rankings, which recognize high school athletic programs based on postseason success and other factors, including state championships, runner-up finishes and national rankings.
Massapequa’s boys athletics program was the highest-scoring boys program in New York and ranked ninth nationally, the district reported.
Massapequa High School was also named a 2025-26 School of Distinction by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The designation is given to schools in which all varsity teams earn Scholar-Athlete status during their respective seasons.
All 33 Massapequa varsity teams recorded a team GPA of at least 90, the school district said.
The district said the rankings capped a year that featured nearly a dozen county, Long Island and state titles. The Chiefs won championships across all three seasons during the 2025-26 school year.
In the fall, boys volleyball won a state championship, football won a Long Island championship and field hockey won a county championship.
During the winter season, boys wrestling won the state dual-meet championship, while gymnastics and girls winter track each earned county championships.
In the spring, baseball and boys lacrosse took home state championships. Softball won a Long Island championship, while girls lacrosse and girls track and field won county championships.
“I am simply in awe of what our student athletes, coaches and entire athletic program continue to accomplish,” Superintendent Dr. William Brennan said in the release.
“From state championships and national recognition to excellence in the classroom, our student athletes represent the very best of Massapequa.”
