Massapequa makes history as NY’s first Little League Softball World Series champs

They pulled it off.

The girls from Massapequa Park are capturing headlines across the U.S. as the first-ever team from New York to win the Little League World series tournament for softball.

The tournament ended Sunday afternoon with solid pitching powering the Mid-Atlantic champs through several opponents, ending with a 5-1 win over the North Carolina (Southeast) team in the finals.

A New York team had never won since the tournament started in 1974, while Texas teams have notched 14 titles, according to reports.

The softball win for the Massapequa International 12 and under girls team came just two days after the boys of the Massapequa Coast Little League came just won win short of a second consecutive appearance in the Little League World Series. Read more here.
