NYU Langone opens new family care suite with 10 private rooms in Mineola

Families welcoming new babies at NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island in Mineola will now have a little more breathing room.

The hospital this week unveiled a newly renovated family care suite, a modernized wing with 10 private rooms designed to give patients and their newborns more space and privacy during recovery.

Hospital officials said the project reflects NYU Langone’s ongoing efforts to improve comfort and safety for mothers, babies and their families. The floor connects directly to labor and delivery through a dedicated elevator, with easy access to the nursery and other departments.

“Our hospital delivers more than 5,000 babies each year,” said Dr. Joseph J. Greco, executive vice president and chief of hospital operations. “This renovation allows us to enhance both the patient and caregiver experience.”

Care inside the new suite is handled by a mix of obstetricians, midwives, pediatricians and specially trained nurses.

The hospital also operates a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit staffed 24/7 by board-certified neonatologists for babies who need specialized support.

Dr. Erika Banks, chair of obstetrics and gynecology, said the goal was to create a setting that feels calm and supportive for families during an intense moment in their lives.
