Patchogue’s ball-dropping New Year’s Eve bash is moving to West Main

|

Patchogue’s popular New Year’s Eve ball-dropping celebration Midnight on Main Street is getting a new location.

Usually held on East Main Street near the Capital One Plaza, this year’s festivities will happen on West Main Street near the new Blue Point Brewery.

The Patchogue Village Board approved the relocation during Tuesday night’s meeting.

“We targeted West Main Street as a good alternative because there is more open space,” said David Kennedy, the executive director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, which runs the event.

The ball countdown will now take place at the intersection of West Avenue and West Main Street. And it will still happen at 9 p.m. to make this a family friendly New Year’s Eve bash.

The fireworks display by Fireworks by Grucci will now stage in the Blue Point Brewery’s parking lot to the west.

“There were concerns that the fireworks display [on East Main Street] was too close to people,” said Kennedy.

From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., West Main Street will be closed from River Avenue to Railroad Avenue. West Avenue will be from South Street to Lake Street.
