A new Mexican dining experience complete with a tequila lounge and salsa lessons is making its way to Bay Shore this spring.
Pecado Mexican owner Ian Coughlin is looking to open around April in the former Barn Door 49 spot on West Main Street.
“Mexican … in my opinion, is one of the hottest segments in food in America right now,” said Coughlin. “I think that staying true to the roots of authentic Mexican can do very well.”
Coughlin, originally of Babylon, decided to bring his vision to his native South Shore after living and working in Nassau for the last decade.
A partner in Rockville Centre’s Mesita, he decided to bring the same values of that restaurant to his new space — just with a newer spin.
With an open-floor plan that covers the roughly 2,700-square-foot space, he is planning on adding a bar stocked with over 200 tequilas and 50 Mezcals.
And though there will be plenty to drink, Coughlin wants people to come not only for great food, but a fun, memorable time.
“We’re going to offer high-end authentic Mexican food in a casual atmosphere,” he said. “You can come with your colleague from work for lunch, come here with your partner for a dinner date or you can bring your grandparents.
“We’re going to be welcoming and inviting to everybody.”
Some other things on tap for Pecado include Taco Tuesdays, Salsa Thursdays and brunch – complete with salsa lessons for customers to get up and move.
“There’s nothing else like it, even though there are other Mexican places around, we’re all different and I don’t see that as competition,” he said. “I see it as a complement — it brings more allure to town, more reasons to come to Bay Shore.”
Coughlin told GreaterBayShore he was looking for a space in Suffolk County for more than a year until he found exactly what he envisioned in Bay Shore. He looked in Huntington, Patchogue, Babylon and Islip.
“I see the writing on the wall with this town and the direction it’s heading,” he said. “Everything about it I love. It’s an up-and-coming town and a great place to start a business and a family.”
