The word is out that East End traffic during what’s now called pumpkin-picking season is as bad as it gets.
So why worry about trying to soothe your 2-year-old while rolling through Southampton at 3 mph?
The people of Greater Bay Shore have a treasure called Brightwaters Farms right in their own backyard — at 1624 Manatuck Boulevard in Bay Shore.
And greaterbayshore.com paid a visit this past weekend.
What we found were pumpkin patches — the real kind, with vines — pony and hay rides, an assortment of farm animals, performances from jugglers and musicians, as well as plenty of food.
There’s even pumpkin beer and cider for the grown-ups.

The Fall Harvest at Brightwaters Farms is open on weekends and Columbus Day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and continues through Oct. 30.
