Korean fried chicken is coming to Suffolk County.
Bonchon, a global chain with over 455 locations, is opening its first Long Island restaurant at Centereach Mall. The new location will take over the former Dickey’s Barbecue Pit space, a 2,150-square-foot area that previously housed a frozen yogurt shop.
According to Bonchon’s website, the Long Island location is set to open on March 19. Before this store, the nearest Bonchon for Long Islanders was located in Queens.
Founded by Jinduk Seo in 2002 in Busan, South Korea, Bonchon expanded to the U.S. in 2006 with its first location in Fort Lee, N.J. Since then, the brand has grown rapidly, now operating over 140 locations nationwide.
Bonchon, which means “Crunch Out Loud,” is known for its hand-battered, double-fried chicken, praised for its signature crispiness. It has been hailed by critics as the “best, most affordable fried chicken in the world.”
The menu features fried chicken in drumsticks, strips, and boneless options, along with a variety of Asian-inspired dishes. Appetizers include bao buns, Korean tacos, and shrimp shumai, while traditional Korean dishes like Japchae — a stir-fried mix of glass noodles, red pepper, carrots, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and bulgogi in soy garlic sauce — are also available.
