Popular Korean fried chicken chain opens first LI location

|

Before 2023 closed out, Long Island received one last delicious gift.

Pelicana Chicken, a widely popular Korean fried chicken chain, opened its first location on the island, launching in Plainview at 542 Woodbury Road last month.

They serve their fried chicken as wings, boneless, and whole chicken. The kicker is their variety of batter and sauce combinations. Pelicana’s signature sauce is the Sweet & Spicy, which comes in three levels: for kids, adults, and spice lovers. They also serve traditional Korean cuisines. Check out the lineup below.

Founded in Daejeon, South Korea, in 1982, the chain rapidly expanded over the last four decades to a roster of 3,000 restaurants worldwide. The first in the U.S. happened next door in Flushing, Queens.

Now, the island has its own — and it was founded by a local with great experience.

Brian Kim, who grew up a stone’s throw away from Plainview in Syosset, is the one who brought Pelicana to Long Island. After college, he started working at the original Flushing location, working his way up from server/waiter to regional manager, a Pelicana representative told Greater Long Island.

“He just knew it in his guts that Pelicana would be loved here, and he was right!” the Pelicana spokesperson told GLI.
