Sayville’s Ronald Bergmann, retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, dies at 90

Ronald Jay Bergmann, a Sayville resident since 1962, died on Monday, Aug. 3. He was 90.

Bergmann served in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Locally, he was a longtime member of the VFW in Sayville, where he served as chaplain for years.

Bermann is survived by his wife, Frances, and his four children, Patricia Ann Herbert and her husband, Randall, of Pennsylvania; James Bergmann and his wife, Julie, of Kings Park; Nancy Lynn Schneider and her husband, Frederick, of Bellmore; and Judith Street and her husband, Steve McManus, of Rocky Point.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, James, Steven, Kelly, Theresa, Maria and Frederick; four great-grandchildren, Lawson, Taya, Daxton and Haiden; and his brother, Grant, and Grant’s wife, Joan, of Florida.

Services for Bergmann are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, 245 Main St. in West Sayville. A chapel service will follow at 6 p.m.

Bergmann will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m., with a committal service and full military honors.
