Scenes from Patchogue’s Veterans Day ceremony

|

The Village of Patchogue honored its servicemen and women with its annual Veterans Day ceremony Monday morning.

The dedication services — hosted by the United Veterans Organization of Patchogue, which includes the VFW Post 2913, American Legion Post 269, and AmVets Post 111 — were held at the village’s Four Corners.

“We celebrate Veterans Day to show our gratitude for the commitment of the men and women in our military who secure our freedom,” said Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri to a large crowd during the commemoration, “And to remember their sacrifices because of what they do not just for Americans but for all of the people around the world.”

After the ceremony, there was an unveiling of medallions that honor the area’s veteran organizations. The plaques will be placed at Harry T. Hanson Veterans Memorial Park on South Ocean Avenue.

“It shows the dedication of the village to our veterans,” said Dave Rogers, the commander of VFW Post 2913, on the commemorative pieces.
