Special achievement: Connetquot student from Oakdale honored by Scholastic

Oakdale fifth-grader Ashley Clinnin was recently named a runner-up in Scholastic’s national “Create a Character Contest,” Connetquot Central School District announced this week.

A student at Edward J. Bosti Elementary School, Ashley is one of 75 runner-ups out of thousands on entrants from schools across the United States. Scholastic asked students to “come up with an imaginative and compelling character to star in a famous author’s original story.”

The winner’s character will be featured in a new story by author Jerry Craft that will be published in a the May/June edition of Scholastic’s “Storyworks” magazine at the end of the school year.
