St. Joseph’s College is helping the tourism industry thrive on Long Island.
And now they are getting awarded for it.
SJC will be honored with an Industry Advancement Award at Discover Long Island’s 2nd Tourism Awards Gala on Dec. 11.
The award, which honors an organization or effort that promotes and drives tourism on Long Island, is recognizing St. Joseph’s College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management bachelor’s program, which has been growing since its rollout in 2013.
“We are very grateful to Discover Long Island for this honor and award,” said Donald Boomgaarden, the president of St. Joseph’s College. “The Hospitality and Tourism Management program is a unique offering at St. Joseph’s College, and one that we are very proud of.
“Under the direction of Dr. Gail Lamberta and Chairperson Tina Ferro, students receive invaluable experience and graduates of this program have gone on to successful careers in the industry.”
St. Joseph’s B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management currently has three different areas of concentration: Tourism, Hotel Management, and Health Care Hospitality.
According to SJC, they are one of the few colleges in the region to offer such education.
“[The program is] designed to afford students a variety of pathways to pursue a broad range of career choices that align with the most recent trends in employment in the New York region,” said the college’s spokesperson Valerie Esposito. “The program also provides students with unique internship opportunities, giving them practical experience in their chosen fields before they graduate.”
