These Special Moms were personally invited to the Harry Connick Jr. show

|

About 50 mothers who have children with special needs were invited to Harry Connick Jr.’s show for a Mother’s Day special on Wednesday.

And it was all thanks to the co-founder of the Special Moms Network, Dana DeRuvo Hanner, who had set the wheels in motion last month for the the Special Moms Network, which helps empower and educates mothers who have children with special needs.

After Hanner went to a taping of Harry on Jan. 23, she casually gave her card to the show’s producer. To her surprise, a week later she got a call inviting Hanner and the members of her network to a show.

“Everybody was ecstatic,” she said. “Mothers of special needs children don’t get out very much, so they were so happy to be given this opportunity.”

The show also provided a bus service to take the mother’s from the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library to the studio and back.

Harry first aired in September of 2016. This particular episode, which was pre-taped on Valentine’s Day, will air on a date closer to Mother’s Day.

Updated: The show will air on May 11.
