Some things just make sense. Take the name Great South Bar.
Earlier this year, longtime friends and fledgling business partners Terence Daly and James McPeak were each dining separately with their dads.
Both father-and-son teams were kicking around names for a possible bar in Patchogue.
Somewhat to his surprise, Daly’s dad came up with something good, a decent pun for once that night: Great South Bar.
The two celebrated a great name. Then, later, Daly looked down at his phone.
It was a text from McPeak — with a great name for the bar:

So, yeah, they went with that.
Great South Bar is now being built within the former Bella Vino location at 23 South Ocean Avenue. Bella Vino, a wine bar, had operated there for well over a decade.
A third partner in the new venture is David Prunier, who also co-owns the popular Tullulah’s restaurant in downtown Bay Shore.
The three, all in their 30s, agreed they wanted to build a spot where they would like to hang out in the village — an alternative to the other nightlife.
“A classic American bar,” said Daly. “No twist. Just quality drinks for thirsty people.”
“Booze for money,” he added.
But there’s food, too.
The menu will include salads, sandwiches, meats and cheeses, crudité and other finger foods, with meats sourced from Karl Ehmer and produce from the H.O.G. Farm in Brookhaven.
They’re also working with the new Mademoiselle Patisserie fresh bread.
The trio took over the space earlier this summer and got working on some cosmetics.

“We’ll be open this month for sure,” said McPeak.
