‘Threatening message’ on social media prompts police presence at Center Moriches

A “threatening message” posted to social media last night by a Center Moriches student has prompted police presence at the secondary campus Friday, according to a letter from Central Moriches School District Superintendent Ronald Masera. 

Masera said the district contacted Suffolk County police, who responded to the threat and investigated.

“At present the SCPD has informed us that there is no credible threat and have advised us to resume normal activity at our secondary campus,” Masera said.

He added that, out of an “abundance of caution,” there will be a police presence at the high school Friday.

“Please be assured the safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority and these matters are handled with the utmost seriousness,” Masera said.

Masera told GreaterMoriches Friday the student, who posted an image to social media, “was not in school” today. He could not elaborate for privacy reasons, he said.
