Town of Islip hosts annual 9/11 tribute at Town Hall

|

Large crowds gathered at Islip Town Hall for the annual 9/11 memorial ceremony on Tuesday evening.

During the tribute, local first responders marched to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania 17 years ago.

“I like to thank each and everyone of you for participating in what has become a very important tradition here in Islip,” said Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter during the somber commemoration.

Carpenter, who led a speech along with other elected officials, honored the 90 Islip residents who died on 9/11. Their names were read out loud to the attentive crowd.

“A special thank you and our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those loved ones,” said Carpenter.

The commemoration finished with a memorial wreath being placed upon the 9/11 Memorial at Town Hall, which features a piece from the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

“Let us, as witnesses of history vow to never forget the horror of that day,” said Carpenter.
