Trader Joe’s begins to take shape in Miller Place

|

Excavators, mountains of dirt, and a new footprint starting to take shape: Trader Joe’s construction is underway in Miller Place.

Heavy machinery and freshly cleared land mark the start of construction of the long-anticipated supermarket on the east side of town. Workers have begun installing septic systems and laying the foundation for the trendy grocery chain, located immediately west of Walgreens and across Route 25A from Applebee’s.

The project was officially green-lit by the Brookhaven Town Board in December. And now, five months later, real signs of progress are visible at the site, which sits at the edge of a bustling Miller Place shopping corridor.

Clearing land for a True Value

The Trader Joe’s isn’t the only development taking shape here. Just east of Walgreens, crews have also cleared land for a brand-new True Value Hardware store (on property formerly occupied by Ging’s Nursery). The two new businesses — plus the existing Walgreens and a McDonald’s — will be connected via an interior access road, a key component of the development plan approved by town officials.

As previously reported by Greater Long Island, the new Trader Joe’s will span just under 13,500 square feet and feature the chain’s signature offerings of private-label pantry staples, organic produce, snacks, frozen meals and more.

The Miller Place location will be Suffolk County’s third Trader Joe’s and Long Island’s eighth. It’s also the trendy grocery chain’s easternmost venture yet on Long Island.

No official opening date has been announced.
