Uber-ing from JFK? If you fly JetBlue, you’ll now use Howard Beach lot

|

Travel Advisory

If you’re flying JetBlue into JFK Airport, your Uber pickup spot is no longer curbside — it’s at the AirTrain’s Howard Beach station.

The move aims to cut down on traffic as summer travel and big construction collide.

The details

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, ride app and car service pickups for travelers arriving at terminals 5 and 7 at JFK Airport will shift to a designated lot at AirTrain JFK’s Howard Beach station, the Port Authority announced today.

Passengers departing JFK can still be dropped off curbside at those terminals as usual.

The change is being made to reduce traffic congestion on terminal roadways during the busy summer travel season, as major construction continues on the airport’s $19 billion redevelopment project. Passengers using Uber, Lyft, Revel or other for-hire services should collect their baggage, follow signs to AirTrain JFK, and take the green line to the Howard Beach station.

From there, travelers can exit toward the Ride App Pick Up and Long Term Parking area, contact their driver, and meet them at an assigned, numbered space. The AirTrain is free for travel within JFK, including to the Howard Beach station.

Customer service staff and baggage handlers will be available at the pickup lot to assist passengers.

Free Wi-Fi will also be offered at the station.

Why it’s happening

The relocation is part of ongoing efforts to ease traffic as construction ramps up on the new Terminal 1, Terminal 6, a ground transportation center and a rebuilt roadway network.

Travelers are encouraged to use AirTrain JFK and visit Construction.JFKAirport.com for updates and advisories before heading to the airport.

Terminal 5 is primarily operated by JetBlue Airways, which serves as its main hub. In addition to JetBlue, the terminal also accommodates Cape Air and Aer Lingus.

International and domestic airlines that utilize Terminal 7 for flights to and from JFK include Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Aerolineas Argentinas, Icelandair, LOT Polish Airlines, Eurowings, Ukraine International Airlines and Qatar Airways.
