Despite possible rain in the forecast, the return of Patchogue’s popular New Year’s Eve celebration, “Midnight on Main Street,” is still on, event organizers say.
The National Weather Service forecast for Saturday night predicts calm winds, about 5 mph, and a 90% chance of precipitation with patchy fog. The high of the day will be about 52 degrees, with a low of around 44.
“We recognize weather conditions might change and we still leave open the possibility we may need to cancel, but as of right now, while we expect some rain, the light winds and warmer than normal temperatures will still allow us to run this event safely and as planned,” said David Kennedy, executive director for the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, which runs the event.
Kennedy said Midnight on Main Street will still run from 7-9 p.m. and the expected conditions won’t hinder the rising of the New Year’s Eve Ball and display of Grucci firework show.

‘Midnight on Main Street’ returns to Patchogue this New Year’s Eve
Families, friends and — of course — fireworks are slated for downtown Patchogue come New Year’s Eve.
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s Midnight on Main Street will return this Dec. 31. The event, which has not been held in person since it rang in 2020, was green-lit last year before a surge of COVID-19 cases quashed it.
“Last year, because of COVID, the fire department was sick, our public safety people were short-staffed, we didn’t feel safe putting it on,” said David Kennedy, executive director for the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce. “I feel confident we’re going to avoid that this year and bring it back. We’re ready to go, we dusted off the plans we had all set for last year.”
From 7-9 p.m., a crowd will converge on the intersection of West Main Street and West Avenue to watch a light-up ball rise, the village’s take on the Times Square tradition. Fireworks by Grucci will set off a pyrotechnic spectacle at 9 p.m., early enough for those kiddies who need to go to bed before midnight.
“The countdown will start close to 9 o’clock, the Patchogue midnight. We like to say we’re ahead of our time,” said Patchogue Village Chamber of Commerce executive director David Kennedy.
As the event is family-friendly; the champagne and shots must be left home. But those who attend can expect the typical fun nature of other downtown Patchogue festivities.
“We’ll have some food vendors with hot beverages and bites to eat,” Kennedy said. “Our chamber booth will be there handing out party hats and noise makers.”
DJ Charlie Lombardo of JBC Broadcasting will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies, playing dance music to keep people moving and warm, before the winners of the chamber’s 30 Days of Dining raffle are announced. Two winners will win gift baskets filled with gift certificates from over 30 restaurants in Patchogue, as well as certificates from a dozen retailers.
