Unknown vandals have been going around western Suffolk destroying cars parked on roadways and driveways under the cover of darkness.
They’ve been damaging windows, slashing tires and breaking mirrors, police said.
One resident of Davis Street in North Babylon reported to Greater Long Island that two of his family cars were targeted in the crime spree. He woke up today, Friday, to find the cars, a Jeep and Nissan, with smashed windows and slashed tires (photos below).



First Precinct Crime Section officers are investigating damage to vehicles that occurred between Wednesday, July 30 and Friday, Aug. 1, Suffolk County police said.
At least 10 vehicles were damaged on West 4th St., West 9th St., West 11th St., West 12th St., West 17th St and Grand Blvd. in Deer Park, along with Middlesex Drive in Dix Hills and Bristol Court in Wheatley Heights, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
If such damage exceeds $1,500, it’s considered criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony that potentially carries a prison sentence of up to seven years, according to New York State penal law.

- Park vehicle in well-lit area, in a driveway or secure parking lot, if possible.
- Do not keep valuables in your vehicle.
- Consider installing cameras on your property.
- Always lock your vehicle.
- Do not leave your vehicle running.
- If you see suspicious activity, call 911.
